Module 8: Reflecting on the Course

I really appreciated the new focus on on-line tools. This training is definitely designed for the FUTURE of technology use in education. We see many of our students already using these on line tools in the form of MySpace or other web communication.... it is about time that we start looking at harnessing this form of communication into our teaching.

I know that after this training I will be implementing the use of on-line tools to bring about increased sharing and feedback within my classroom.

As always, the idea of project based learning linked with curriculum framing questions is a concept that in my mind will continue to bring about the biggest impact on student learning. Only when we move to a student-centered approach that requires kids to think at a higher level can we begin to truly prepare them for productivity in the world of the future.

Module 7: Reflecting on My Learning

How can I facilitate a student-centered classroom?
Project based learning designed from a constructivist stand point lends itself to setting the stage for a student centered classroom. In a student centered classroom kids are give the opportunity to make choices about how they learn and how the go about completing learning activities. To provide an environment for success, teachers must look at ways to incorporate many learning styles and multiple intelligences.

How can I use technology to support my instructional practices?
Technology can be used as a productivity tool, a communication tool, and a resource for students and teachers. I look forward to increasing individual student participation by combining the use of on-line tools with direct instruction.

Module 5: Reflecting on My Learning

How do I assess student learning:
I use evaluation tool aligned to the objectives that work as scaffolds to help students ensure that they are meeting the expectations and mastering key skills

How do I involve students in the assessment process?
Students are given assessment tools at the beginning of a project. They use the tool to guide themselves through the successful completion of the project. Students work with peers to double check their use of the evaluation tool and the completeness of their project.

This module helped me to solidify my understanding of the use of assesment tools thoughout the project. I now have a distinction that formative assessments do not need to be overt.

Module 4: Reflecting on My Learning

By creating the student sample first, I was able to think through the process that my students would go through to complete the project. It helped me forsee the steps that I would need to guide my students through in order for them to be sucessful. I could also see more clearly the project requirements.

I will develop an assesment tool that will clearly define the expectations of the students as they complete their projects.
